Persian (Farsi) Verb Conjugations
Complete conjugation tables for the 20 most essential Persian verbs. Each verb includes present, past simple, imperfect, subjunctive, and future forms — all with both Persian script and transliteration for easy learning.
How Persian Verb Conjugation Works
Persian verbs are built from two stems: a present stem (بن مضارع) and a past stem (بن ماضی). These often differ significantly — for example, رفتن (raftan, "to go") has the past stem رفت (raft) but the present stem رو (rav). Knowing both stems is the key to conjugating any Persian verb.
Key features of Persian verb conjugation:
- No grammatical gender — the same forms apply to all subjects regardless of gender
- mi- prefix (می) — marks the present and imperfect tenses
- be- prefix (بـ) — marks the subjunctive and imperative moods
- na-/ne- prefix (نـ) — negation replaces mi- or be- with na-/ne-
- Compound verbs — extremely common: a noun or adjective + a light verb like کردن (kardan) or شدن (shodan)
The six personal endings (-am, -i, -ad, -im, -id, -and) remain consistent across most tenses, making Persian conjugation relatively regular once you know the stems.
